From the sacrificial altar of the Ulaca hill fort to the lagoon at El Oso, taking in the huts at Navalosa, the Piedralaves star viewing point, Mombeltrán Castle or the Gredos Mountains’ ever suggestive Great Lagoon. These are just some of the spectacular corners of the province of Ávila which have displays of astrophotography from the Diputación de Ávila (Ávila Provincial Government) under the collective astrotourism brand “Stellarium Ávila”.
This astrophotography exhibition was inaugurated in the autumn of 2022 at Naturávila, and the aim was for the show to travel all around the province of Ávila, starting with the 28 municipalities of the Starlight Reserve, to continue afterwards in the 24 municipalities of the Alberche-Pinares Starlight Destination and in any of the 274 municipalities of the province of Ávila which might wish to show the wealth of Ávila’s dark sky to their inhabitants and visitors.
The exhibition has two distinct parts: one part including 24 fixed photographs displayed on panels, taken by the astrophotographers José Luis Quiñones and José Jiménez, and the other, entitled “Blue Hour”, a space with a screen allowing the projection of more photographs about the quality of the dark skies of the province of Ávila, with images from José Luis Díaz Segovia and Alfonso García Ávila.
This exhibition will be gradually enriched with new astrophotographs provided by other astrophotographers and amateur astronomers from the province of Ávila
Municipalities interested in requesting this exhibition should contact hola@stellariumavila.es to follow the administrative steps necessary.
